Ceramic alumina abrasive is a sintered abrasive produced by the advanced Sol-Gel process. Unlike conventional fused aluminum oxide, ceramic abrasive grains possess an extremely fine microstructure, with each crystal measuring only 100–300 μm, representing only a few percent of the crystal size found in ordinary corundum abrasives.
A single F46 grit abrasive wheel contains hundreds of millions of these microcrystals, providing exceptional cutting ability and superior grinding performance.

Traditional fused alumina abrasives gradually become flattened and dull during grinding. Under grinding pressure, the worn grains are easily detached from the wheel, resulting in reduced cutting efficiency and shorter service life.
Ceramic abrasives, however, exhibit a unique micro-fracturing mechanism. During operation, dull surface crystals break away under grinding force, continuously exposing new sharp cutting edges. This self-sharpening effect enables the abrasive to remain consistently sharp throughout its service life.

The fracture behavior of ceramic alumina differs significantly from that of traditional fused abrasives.
Ceramic abrasive grains tend to fracture along crystal boundaries, producing controlled micro-fractures that create new cutting edges. Conventional fused corundum abrasives mainly experience transgranular fracture, resulting in less efficient wear patterns.
As a result, ceramic abrasives offer approximately twice the toughness of conventional fused aluminum oxide abrasives.
